“Listen Up”: Poem set to Ray Ferrer’s Artwork

Ray Ferrer – “Listen Up” Urbanwallart.wordpress.com

Cover your ears to hear. Vibrations clearly in motion, its clear the emotion.

Passion seeking words through love notes.

Music is enough. Slow down, listen up.

Coursing through veins. It stains the heart with no end, and all start.

Vision accompanied by expression, soon meets the soul with passionate aggression.

Deep meaning and feeling without speaking. Mind reeling.

Reality once captured by verses and rhymes, you see.

Past tense or present matter none. Time between the lines creates “free”.

Can’t breathe without the tones wrenching the soul.

Lyrical beauty perceived by life’s tragedies. Ears covered closely to these.

Silence shattered by muse. Bone crippling pulse reaches in and ravishes feeling.

The beats retreat. Fading in, slowly out. Seemingly breathing clarity.

Piano, voice, strings, rap, reggae, hip hop.

Music is enough. Slow down, Listen up.

*Below is the artist who created this inspiration for my poem. He truly captures real beauty in the shadows.*

Ray Ferrer’s Bio:

I am an East Coast based artist who, through my work, seeks to utilize various harmonies and ideas to visually engage the audience. I also use my art as an opportunity to experiment with the range of possibilities allowed through my choice of materials, spray paint and hand cut stencils.

My work captures spaces of partial or full illumination between the perfect shadows on all sides of a person or an object. The artwork conveys the real beauty of the subject. The viewer is able to appreciate the simplicity, splendor and exquisiteness of my work and the subject. The work is raw, it’s stripped back, it’s honest.

I am vehemently opposed to using art as a means to rely on overly-complex theories or ideas to prop up mediocre images. I believe that the quality of the actual work is what is paramount.
